Because you need my advice:
1. Exercise. Wake your body and the spirit will follow.
2. Drink. Not constantly, just a well placed outburst here and there to purge the brain. I recommend gin.
3. Do something new. It doesn't matter what.
4. Ritual. Physical acts lead the mind to take necessary steps. Doing is being. Burning shit is quite effective, but feel free to make up your own.
5. Get mad. Justified anger is positive. Feel it, express it and move on.
6. Sleep.
7. Be alone. Spend some time with the only person who can really help.
8. Throw shit out.
9. Make stuff. If it sucks, see #8.
10. Hang out with dogs. They know everything worth knowing.
11. Feel sorry for yourself. Then stop it. Nobody likes a sissy.
This is all good, road tested, grade A stuff. Some of it might work for women too. I wouldn't have any way of testing that. Let me know, though.

Excellent list, OC! All tried tested & true, I think you've come up with a list for Getting Through Shit that crosses gender lines.
I did add a few at my place, though;)
Women make babies, nests, dinner, etc. They have little time for making ''stuff,'' although they appreciate it when men do, as long as it's not ugly and useless.
Make a fire. Good.
Make a moosehead gunrack. Bad.
So, for women, I suggest:
8. Close the door, light some candles, draw a bath, order in room service.
Room service, oh you bet! Good one.
I should add my stuff here:
1. Redecorate and/or renovate
2. Clean obsessively
3. Bake bread
4. Throw out the sweats
5. Do something for someone else
I'm sure there's more...

It's all fun and games until the hamsters gang up and steal the hammer.
antonia - Sweats have their place but when times are tough they can be dangerous -- it's too easy to sink into an All Sweats All The Time mindset.
It all works for me except the dogs bit. Dogs require you to pick up their feces in baggies several times a day and they smell bad in the rain. Given that I live in a rainy climate and have plenty of shit to deal with already, dogs I might know enough to have a relationship would end up feeling like another set of relentless needs.
I'd like to respectfully disagree with Antonia - I like to put together stuff: probably more in the way of ikea furniture, since I'm as urban and small-apartment living as I can be, but I also like to go pound clay.
Oooh. That sounds nasty. We can only hope my reputation is enhanced as being a bad-ass.
Anyway, my mom-in-law knits the world a sweater and will on her death bed, and my mom can't stop producing craft-related things of various sorts, so I think women who make stuff are well represented. Martha Stewart finds them and sells things to them.
But I think that you could probably roll "make stuff" into a larger umbrella of "create" - cuz that might not be Stuff, it might be Animated Cartoons, or Tortured Poetry, or Songs about Trucks - and you'd have a larger carry all for how people do. Some people, a song's more satisfying than a thing. You know.
Gin? No wonder you have to have a list of 8 different things to do to get through stuff.
